Research into Target Audience

Psychological Thriller

Our group all decided that we wanted to produce a psychological thriller for our film opening. In order to do so we would have to conduct the appropriate research in to who are target audience would be. A psychological thriller is a sub genre of a thriller that has a heavy focus on the characters. This specific genre tends to have elements of drama, mystery and horror.

This being the case it is evident that this particular genre would be targeted towards an older audience so the required certificate for our film would be a 15.

Below is a video that shows some psychological thrillers

I personally believe that our own opening should be targeted for young teenagers as our main character is a teenage girl. This should allow a young audience to relate to the main character and become emotive towards her as she goes through her ordeal. Throughout she is plagued by a series of threatening letters and mysterious injuries. She feels as if she is not safe anywhere. The way in which this concept becomes psychological is that its turns out that she suffers from schizophrenia and is in fact sending the letters to herself and causing herself self harm.

Psychological – Elements that are related to the mind or processes of the mind; they are mental rather than physical in nature. Sometimes the suspense comes from within one solitary character where characters must resolve conflicts with their own minds. Usually, this conflict is an effort to understand something that has happened to them. These conflicts are made more vivid with physical expressions of the conflict in the means of either physical manifestations, or physical torsions of the characters at play.
