Intertextuality

Intertextuality is when a film makes reference to or in some way is influenced by other films or film genres. Films often use scenes from other movies and recreate them to include them in their movie. A good example of this is ‘Psycho’ and ‘Fatal Attraction’. The last scene in Fatal Attraction makes reference to the earlier film ‘Psycho’.
Both of these scenes are almost identical, Fatal attraction used everthing from Psycho from being in a bathroom to the props, like the knife etc. Both scene are dramatic and famous.
